River Reports - Uttaranchal - Yamuna

Shalabh Gahlaut

Yamuna is the consort of the Lord Vishnu, and the cities of Delhi, Mathura and Agra were established on her banks. As holy as the Ganges, the Yamuna is considerable smaller in the mountains than the former. Access is very easy from Dehradun via Mussoorie.

Its a very good river for a warm up on the way to the Tons watershed, with its numerous easy Class II - III sections below the bridge at Naugaon all the way to the plains.

Especially good for learning how to kayak!!!

Above Barkot the river gets steep and offers some real steep creeking down from Hanumanchatti. Thereare a few comitting canyons but everything is scoutable and partageable.
